BadgerNet launched on Yorkshire and Humber Care Record
System C’s BadgerNet maternity system has been connected to the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record and is now providing data to feed into the care records.
BadgerNet is a fully paperless early pregnancy and maternity system which follows the entire course of a woman’s care and pregnancy, including all those involved in her care.
The shared care record solution in use across six integrated care systems (ICSs) in the region, Interweave, is hosted by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and went live with BadgerNet on 17 February 2025.
BadgerNet aims to give the full picture of a woman’s pregnancy, including history and current notes, providing all caregivers with the necessary tools they need to care for a patient.
Becky Case, local maternity and neonatal system programme (LMNS) lead at Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, said, “We are delighted that other members of the wider healthcare system will now be able to use perinatal records to improve the safety, quality and experience of maternity care for our service users.
“The LMNS continue to work to ensure that all service users can access the BadgerNet system; ensuring availability in different languages and supporting digital inclusion for all of our communities.”
Access to the data will be particularly important for GPs, safeguarding teams and the Yorkshire and Humber Maternal Medicine Network.
The information will also be vital for midwives, who see pregnant women through the course of their pregnancy and need to understand their medical history.
Key data is fed into the shared care records from those appointments, which can be accessed should the patient need any additional healthcare from another provider.
Lee Rickles, chief information officer at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Introducing BadgerNet has been a key point in our diversification of the data available through Interweave.
“By integrating maternity data into the Yorkshire and Humber Shared Care Record, we empower clinicians to offer more personalised, informed support to expectant mothers, ultimately enhancing the safety and wellbeing of both mother and baby.”
In July 2024, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust announced plans to digitise their maternity services with the BadgerNet maternity system.
A month earlier, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) rolled out the BadgerNet electronic patient record (EPR) and Badger Notes online portal in its maternity services.
