EPR goes live across St George’s, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals

A groupwide electronic patient record (EPR) system has been rolled out  across St George’s, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals (GESH).

The system, called iClipPro, which went live on 9 May 2025, integrates multiple IT systems used across the trusts’ sites into one, giving staff a complete overview of a person’s care in real time.

The contract for St George’s was signed in February 2022 and covers the period between January 2022 through to May 2032.

Epsom and St Helier signed the contract in December 2021 which runs through to December 2031.

Supplied by Oracle Health, it is expected to help speed up observations, monitoring and prescribing, freeing up more time for patient care and leading to fewer delays.

While Epsom and St Helier Hospitals will transfer over to the new iClipPro platform, the current iClip system at St George’s will be updated, so that all hospitals will be using the same system.

Jacqueline Totterdell, group chief executive for St George’s Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals, said: “Today marks a significant and exciting moment for GESH, with the launch of a group-wide electronic patient record system.

“iClipPro will make a real difference for our staff and patients – keeping data secure, reducing delays and supporting clinicians by providing comprehensive access to the information they need.”

Using one system for more than 17,000 staff across multiple sites is intended to streamline admin tasks and minimise duplication.

The launch follows years of detailed planning, which included the secure migration of patient information from a number of historic IT systems and paper records into the one single system now in use.

This has included the installation of new technology and devices across multiple sites, the safe transfer of patient data from old systems to new, and a comprehensive launch plan including ‘on-the-floor’ support for staff and regular communications with patients and the public.

Meanwhile, a snapshot report from Future Health Intelligence on the acute EPR market, published in May 2025, found that 94% of NHS acute trusts in England have an EPR in place.

Last year’s report showed that 19 acute trusts (13%) out of 134 in England were without a live EPR, compared to eight trusts (6%) in March 2025.

The government’s £2bn Frontline Digitisation programme is pushing for full EPR adoption across both acute and mental health trusts, with the deadline being extended by 12 months from March 2025 to March 2026.

In May 2025 NHS England awarded a ‘tiger teams’ contract worth £13.3 million to consultancy firm KPMG to support trusts unlikely to meet the March 2026 EPR target.
