Cambridge University Hospitals integrates video service with EPR

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) has integrated a clinical video management service with its Epic electronic patient record (EPR) system.
The vCreate service was deployed on 1 April 2025 for the management of clinical videos, images and supporting data.
It allows patients and clinicians to upload, share and store unlimited videos and images, with the aim of enabling rapid precision diagnostics and more efficient clinical decision-making.
Dr Andy Michell, consultant and clinical lead in clinical neurophysiology at CUH, said: “Integrating vCreate with Epic has been a game-changer for our neurology service.
“The ability to instantly access and safely share clinical videos has dramatically improved the way we manage referrals and determine the best treatment pathways for patients.”
By embedding vCreate directly within Epic, clinical teams at CUH can now access patient videos and images, which is expected to help to streamline referrals, improve collaboration, and reduce administrative burden.
Clinically useful videos and images, from patient and clinician devices, can be transferred into vCreate and onward to Epic, forming part of the medical record, as well as with other clinical teams across the trust.
Ben Moore, founder of vCreate, said: “Large, all-encompassing platforms often attempt to replicate EPR capabilities, leading to inefficiencies and overlap.
“Smaller, targeted micro-services excel at specific tasks, making them more cost-effective and adaptable to clinical needs.
“They can be deployed faster, improve user experience, and are designed to work with existing workflows, resulting in measurable cost-savings and clinical efficiencies.”
The vCreate solution is used in more than 130 NHS services and following the integration with Epic at CUH, NHS trusts including Great Ormond Street Hospital, King’s College Hospital, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust are expected to follow suit.
CUH was the first trust to implement Epic’s EPR system in October 2014, allowing clinicians to access all clinical and administrative information relating to a patient in real time, in one place.
In March 2023, vCreate launched digital forms and reminders to enable clinical teams to digitise their paper forms and share reminders with patients, families and staff to help hospitals move closer to their paperless targets as well as help standardise care across regions and streamline the patient pathway.
